June 20th Subcommittee Meeting - Submit Your Comments on the Draft Plan!

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

The next Subcommittee meeting to discuss the Community Plan Update is Tuesday, June 20 at 5:30 p.m at the Nobel Recreation Center. Additional information can be found here:

This will be the last meeting before the June 30th deadline to submit public comments on the Draft Plan. If you haven’t submitted comments yet (or would like to submit more), we encourage you to do so by June 18 so that the chair of the subcommittee knows about the comments before the meeting. Instructions to submit comments can be found at the bottom of this post.

Planning Commission Evaluates SB 10 Implementation

On June 1st, the City of San Diego Planning Commission evaluated the City’s proposed Housing Package 2.0, which includes implementation of SB 10. (SB 10 is a piece of legislation that would allow developers to build up to 10 units on single family lots in areas considered close to transit.)

More than 850 public comments were submitted, most of which opposed SB 10 implementation. The Commissioners expressed concern about SB 10, including the broad area to which it would be applied, the inability to modify the program after implementation (the legislation prohibits future changes by a future council), and the lack of a plan for infrastructure. One Commissioner acknowledged that “building housing for housing’s sake doesn’t address the underlying problems.” The Commission postponed the item until August 3 for further consideration.

If you oppose the implementation of SB 10, please email our City representatives (email addresses for Mayor Gloria and Councilmembers LaCava and Lee are below) to let them know.

Help Save UC’s Comments on the Draft Plan

Help Save UC submitted written comments to the City on May 4, 2023. Our comment letter can be found by clicking here.

Our comments focused mostly on the Vons and Sprouts shopping centers and encouraged the City to:

• Lower the proposed density at both shopping centers

• Reduce the 100-foot height limit to 50 feet at Vons and 40 feet at Sprouts

• Include at least 30-foot setbacks from rear and side property lines

• Require at least one parking space on site for new residents, and

• Include language to protect existing commercial services and require such services to be included in future projects.
